Central Node for UCR Foray in Overton County, Tennessee—23–29 May 2011
Though becoming very uncommon to rare in the Region, Loggerhead Shrikes like the one above still populate favored sites, such as this one in northeastern Overton County, where it was found during the foray in that county; photo Edmund K. LeGrand (27 May 2011). |
An Upper Cumberland Region (UCR) foray was conducted in Overton County 23–29 May 2011 by members of the Upper Cumberland birding community. Names of participants are listed in Table 3 at the page for Raw Data (link below). An earlier foray was conducted in Overton County 23–26 May 1986 by members of the TOS. Results of the TOS Foray were incorporated into the Tennessee Breeding Bird Atlas (Nicholson 1997) and were never published separately; consequently, the list (Table 2 [below]) of 96 breeding species found in or near Overton County during the 1986 TOS Foray may be of interest.
The general protocol for conducting a foray in the UCR since 2008 may be consulted at a page accessible via this link:

Maps of Overton County, one displaying the foray blocks for that county(Figure 3) and the other displaying the blocks in which effort was expended during the Tennessee Breeding Bird Atlas project (Figure 4), are available via the following links:
The focal species for the foray included the Barn Owl, the Blue-headed Vireo, and the Cerulean Warbler; the owl was unobserved during the foray, but several sightings of the latter two species were made during the foray.
